I’m planning on getting either the SG or S8. I actually prefer the cleaner look of the S8. One of my other considerations is the voice count through. @udo-audio is the option to purchase extra voice cards for the S8 definitely going ahead? If so, what is it likely to cost? Just trying to do the maths to see what makes most sense for me. ---

@Quatschmacher I can’t guarantee it or stipulate a price yet. That said, I can say that we will offer it if we sell enough Super 8 to justify the development of the packaging, instructions, shopfront & marketing etc. that any new addition, no matter how small entails. Typically we would have to wait a year but we would let people know earlier. ---

Nice to hear there might be extra voices for the Super 8. I’m also looking at it over the SG, but not because of price. Size, color scheme, and single layer layout appeal to me. ---

@ozvena we’ve met the threshold of sales to make it worthwhile and I think the upgrade will be popular with Super 8 users so I’m committed to releasing it. Great News :-). Somehow, sadly, I suppose the motherboards of Super Gemini and 8 are the same, and they max both at 10 slots for two voices cards, so no chance anytime soon to see an offering to extend Gemini to 22 or 24 voices? ---

Were it an option, I’d be in. I don’t want to speculate too much about the architecture so who knows. But then it would create a situation for S8 owners, once again being behind. ---

It could be possible to have more voices per card I would hope, ie doubling or tripling the current ones or a riser card with multiple card slots. Most synths these days have standard pc slots so fingers crossed. ---

Just letting you know I’ve tested the first voice upgrade process for Super 8 today. A new firmware will come out very soon addressing some urgent fixes and it also has the voice upgrade code in it. I’ll have to chat with my team next week how we roll it out. We also have to make a little engraved decal like for the ST49 🙂 ---

Could there be a bit of code which shows an LED sequence after the firmware sequence is shown in the case that the extra voices are detected? I imagine not everyone might want to add a decal. ---

When we talk about voice card upgrades and the like here, what aspects of the Super series are readily ‘upgradable’? Are there open slots of some sort inside? Are the voice cards in the synths on pins that can just be pulled out and exchanged? ---

I found no internal image for the Super8, but I guess it uses the same motherboard, with only 8 slots filled, hence the possibility to add two more cards, or 4 more voices… To extend the Gemini, it would need some piggyback/Y PCI intermediate card to mount two stereo cards on one slot Don’t know if it exist/is technicallyfeasible/in the U.D.O plans… Images come from internet search and are freely available on other forums/discussions, they are not mine nor taken by me
