Hazel Mills’ The Embrace EP is fantastic

I’d heard of Hazel through Hannah Peel and then I was interested to see her pop up demoing various Super 6 features. I knew she played keys for Goldfrapp and Florence and The Machine but I hadn’t listened to any of her own music until I watched her recent Sonicstate interview and found out about her EP.

It’s brilliant. If you like Goldfrapp, Bat for Lashes/Natasha Kahn, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel etc. then do give it a listen. It’s the sound of a woman totally in the thrall of her muse who’s mastered her instruments and voice to satisfy its calling.

In the interview she says she has a lot of musical training and it shows. It’s the type of material that reveals more and more of itself with repeated listenings. Truly a musician in all the important senses of the word!

She’s as much of a talent as the people she’s played for. A star in her own right. I hope her solo work grows into a live set.

Yes, absolutely. Very deep record. Hoping for a full album.

Came across this EP last year and absolutely love it. Have listened to it many times. Really hoping Hazel puts out an album.

I saw Hazel some months back when she was in Australia with the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble (interesting concept group; well worth an evening if they are somewhere near you performing). She’s such a multi-talented musician across genres. I’m really hoping she does some kind of UDO centric tutorial course on synthesis; I’d gladly pay to hear her talk about her process.

Oh yes, I saw the Moog ensemble back in 2018 I think so guessing Hazel must have been in that.
