I have my synths going in to a Mackie mixer many in the stereo channels which do not have an input gain they all sound great. When I put the Gemini in a stereo pair channel it is almost too quiet to hear. I than switched the Gemini to the non stereo channels which have an input gain and can get decent levels? I also tried a few professional headphones in the headphone jack and the volume is surprisingly low. Wondering if this is defective unit or if that’s just how they are. Everything else seems to be working ok. When I use the headphones the only way to get practical volumes is to edit the presets and increase VCA gain?
I’m certainly not qualified to answer the question, but I own a Super 8 for a couple of weeks and I experienced the same situation. I am using unbalanced cables to connect the synth to my soundcard and I have to max the volume and to add up to 10db gain to have a comparable volume with other machines. I also tried with different headphones at different impedance, and I have to max VCA level to have a proper volume. The sound is amazing apart from being comparatively lower in volume.
I had a similar issue with low volume, but I think the volume of the patches are on the conservative side. A volume pedal definitely helped with the levels.
This is something I have noticed on the Super6 and later the module. I didn’t notice it on the Gemini yet because I haven’t had it hooked up directly to my interface yet, but from your information I gather it’s the same.
If I compare the output level of the Super6 module to my Prophet 10 the difference is big, but the Prophet is probably the loudest synth I have so maybe it’s just on the other side of the range.
I thought professional devices were all similar in terms of line i/o levels, but apparently not.
I’m only using mono/unbalanced TS jack cables.
You can also side the VCA envelope levels up and down, I think they are set quite low.
Yep. Agreed, I have a Jupiter X that also is on the low side, but using the volume pedal thing kind of snaps it back to a decent level.
