A way to display the value of a parameter after recalling a patch

i resell moog matriarch for similar reason, tired to take pictures of panel to know values of parameters of a patch… the p10 or OB solutions (point or led indicating initial value) seem so simple to add…

AlainTH Sorry you did not fall in love with your Matriach. Maybe in a few years, you will regret selling it. I bought a Super6 because of the retro style user controls. No colour screen or even an LED 2 digit display. So you just use you ears! George Hearne did a brilliant job. There’s more choice of music electronics today, so I have to choose carefully, look at plenty of YTs and read lots of reviews. I’ve just pulled the plug on buying a Therevox, for the same reason, though am getting their Onde Martineau Euro rack oscillator in stead.

yes the matriarch can do good sounds… and the patch bay with wires make the parameters values not easy to 'memorize… UDO synths have not this problems. I have seen many complaints on forums since 2023 so i feel also an arrogance from this ‘little’ company which try to sell his products ‘as they are’ without any concern about the users who give their money… just a midi editor which shows the values, ot the led blinking or … seem so easy to do…

AlainTH What I would advise is modular and semi-modular synthesis may not “be your thing”. I’ve had my Super6 about 5 years, so have see most of the complaints you mention on this forum. I do not agree UDO and George Hearne are arrogant. They are a small British company, making high quality synths. Britain is not an easy country for doing business. If you watch YT videos from before Super6 launch in 2018 or whenever, George explains his philosophy, so I knew what I was buying.

Super6 in not a normal digital synth. It has separate voice cards for each voice. I am guessing this is why it does not have a software editor. If you read this blog from the beginning, 2 people say they have made their own software editors, BUT they have not offered them to anyone AFAIK. I am not going to say these editors are fake, as the individuals may jump down my throat, but it’s odd their editors are not available to buyers of Super6.

Most likely the entire Super6, both circuit boards, firmware and software, would have to be completely re-designed to work with editor software. I do not think George Hearne has any need to explain. It’s his company’s intellectual property. You do not see Yamaha, Korg or Roland responding to customer suggestions, and they are massive companies, compared to UDO. Super6 is the most massive sounding analogue synth I’ve ever heard. I just enjoy playing it. That’s enough for me.

the preset are stored, the parameters values are stored, what i see is that users (and me if i decide to buy a gemini) just want a manner to know what value the parameters have. a led blinking would be sufficent. This is nothing to do with the hardware structure or so. this thing is aked since 2023. i have materials of others ‘small companies’ at this moment (morningstar midi controller to be precise and electra one) and i can say you the conceptors are on the forum, answer questions, and ask for suggestions and ideas to make their products more and more useful for users. they are passionate etc… it seem udo team have the opposite character. And worse i see bugs reported since long time (the arp sync to midi clock for exemple etc…)… i will buy maybe a gemini because i appreciate its sounding and possibilities but with a bit of bitterness toward this people…

Calling anyone trying to run a small business arrogant because they aren’t able to implement a feature, even an oft requested one, just isn’t cool.

I’m the first to be critical and have in many instances, especially around this issue, but name calling isn’t going to help anyone.

AlainTH I own a Manatee from Fred’s Lab, and can confirm there’s no feedback or user Facebook AFAIK. UDO must be doing something right, since Moog got bought out, and Modal Electronics went into receivership. Modal are also in Bristol area like UDO, and may have been connected, at least on speaking terms. It’s a tough business world, and UDO are still trading. Their website forum has a massive amount of discussion, which must answer 99% of customer service enquiries, if people take the time and trouble to read it. I know Super6 is a flawed synth, just like a Jupiter8, CS80, Prophet5 and RSF Polykobol. Frankly I don’t care, it can sound like the voice of God, and that’s enough. If you’ve not bought a UDO synth yet, maybe a Korg Multi/Poly or Modwave would suit you better. They offer full editor, and cost a lot less money. Unfortunately, you won’t get the awesome true analogue filter chips and sound of UDO.

i am not seeing for an editor, just knowing the value of parameters (more exactly the positions of cursors and switches used in the patch loaded). I have already P10 Obx8 quantum polybrute 12 and some others i just want to add the udo sounding to my palette, and just saw this vizualisation of preset values (like prophet 10 for example with a point on 7seg display which could be a led blinking…) is asked by many users since long time and don’t understand the attitude of udo. But you do.

AlainTH Please read my 2 comments at the very beginning of this very blog. Just scroll to the top, February 2021. I asked for exactly what you just asked for. I sincerely believe this is NOT POSSIBLE. Probably because the internal software which remembers patches does not, cannot and never can send MIDI and SysX to a computer. I opened a Super6 patch file on my computer, and it is incomprehensible, probably scripting language. Look at Sunny Synths, for 35 Euros. It may work, or it may not??? https://www.sunnysynths.com/udo-super-6?lightbox=dataItem-l6jnwe96 I think if it were possible, UDO would have done it by now.

midi is another affair, for now the problem is just indicate the ‘internal value’ which is knewn by the synth system, of course.

you know what? i ordered a gemini and just received it one hour ago.
i had a great 1st stress when i switched on : no sound at the output, just a led blinking at up left… didnt see this in the pages of manual i read (maybe it appears somewhere…) i tried to connect a pc with usb and the PC saw it so i tried a firmware update procedure, and finally the gemini produce sound… i just go out do distress a little, i send this message and i return play it… the unique sound i heard seem promising. i hope the pleasure and inspiration will be here (sufficiently to permit to wait new firmware which maybe will solve the problems and desires of users…).

Any chance it was unboxed previously? UDO test before shipping so firmware shouldn’t suddenly be missing. Anyway glad you’re up and running!

ah… bought at Thomann as new one… i will try to know more about that…
