Catch-Up/Pass-Through/Track

Catch-Up/Pass-Through/Track

This has been raised before in a post from 2022, but I feel it really needs to be brought to the attention of UDO - for live performance, it’s one of the most critical missing features across the Super series.

Currently, I believe most controls operate in jump mode - touch a fader, and the parameter snaps to its physical position. Very jarring and does not work with performing live with the synth.

What I believe could be an inspiration for the solution:

The Moog Little Phatty offers three modes:

- **Snap** - current UDO behaviour

- **Pass-Thru** - parameter holds until the control physically sweeps through the stored value

- **Track** — value moves gently in the direcrion of the control until they converge

On the visual side, the Little Phatty pairs this with LED rings showing where the *stored* value currently sits relative to the knob’s physical position - instant feedback, no screen required!!

Given UDO’s emphasis on ‘The Power of Play’, the cstch up feature feels like a natural firmware priority. Is it on the roadmap?

In relation to the moog Little phatty’s led rings, I feel this design would pair incredibly well in future UDO instruments.

Sadly I don’t believe UDO reads this forum. It’s a missed opportunity on their part. They could be using this to crowd source development but I’m pretty sure they just want you to email customer support.

It’s weird how the Minimoog Voyager and the Little Phatty solved so many issues and established many standard worthy features. I have Minimoog Voyager and it still baffles me how it has some OS/Screen/MIDI features some newer synths lack.

Another one is independent up and down bend ranges. It could be cool doing it with a shift functionality in the Super series.

And a second great thing the Voyager does, copied in part by DSI/Sequential is that it displays current vs stored values. So you can reverse engineer the panel from a stored program. I still think this is something UDO should also look into implementing as the compare sounds already does something similar data wise but not UI wise.

I for one do think UDO team reads the forum, it’s not a huge flow of posts. But being a smaller company I’m sure they can’t go and respond to each post.
