I control some other synths with my Super 8, and also send midi to my Super 8 and the synths downstream over midi din. I have to keep switching it from out to thru manually when moving from playing to sending midi from the computer. Is there a way to route the input to the output in addition to the thru? That would save a clunky merge box and reduce latency.
Hereβs what I did.
I have a MIDI Din on my audio interface (but any Computer MIDI Din adapter would do).
I use a Nome II Master clock for syncing my Gemini, a Tempest and a KO II. It connects to the computer via USB and has DIN1 and DIN2 out.
But I use the Gemini as my master keyboard for computer soft synths as well as my collection of other hardware synths.
So my physical setup is:
Computer USB β Nome II DIN 1 β Gemini In
Gemini Out β Audio Interface DIN β Computer
Gemini Thru β Tempest In
Nome II DIN 2 β KO II
So that way I can turn off local mode use Studio One (or just MIDIOx) to route from the Gemini through the computer back to the Gemini or Tempest or KO II. Or I can control other synths such as my OB6.
I also can ignore the computer, turn on Local mode and be sure the Nome II is controlling the clock for the Gemini, Tempest and KO II when Iβm live jamming.
Hopefully that gives you some creative routing ideas for your own setup.
I might just have to deal with the small latency from a midi merger. I use Expert Sleepers spdif to midi as usb introduces jitter. All my midi is in sync to the DAW with zero jitter.
