Franco- may I suggest that if you have decided that the S6 is not for you , that you look at the Prophet 6 - it’s a great synth , reliable and has time proven build quality .
When you find one that has less than 98 people ranting about its problems online, please share it. I’m very eager to invest in such an instrument!
Plus it was 98 messages, not people, and plenty of those messages were not complaints. And there is new firmware at the testing stage now anyway.
I was wondering whether to add a reply or not, since number of replies is perceived to add to the general weight of issues. Put simply, if I had my cash back and was looking for a modern polysynth all over again, I’d still choose the Super 6. I love the sound, I love the layout and I can’t think of anything that would please me as much. Perhaps the 3rd Wave would be something I’d also look at - but that costs a whole load more and, knowing me, I’d find a bunch of things about it that don’t match my hopes and expectations. That’s the way these things work after all
.
If you can I heartily recommend spending some quality time with the Super 6 before ruling it out. That’s how I decided I wanted one and why I still do.
any news on the new firmware? they promised the end of summer, and here we are so hope to read the announcement soon🤞
It’s an amazing synth. There isn’t anything significantly up with it that would make me even consider selling. It sounds amazing and I have never really run into a bug that has caused me issues. The only reason I may swap it is to buy a gemini instead.
Franco: if you love the sound, buy it, learn the quirks as they are, and find your sound in the S6 or whatever synth you choose. I just wonder you might be aiming for an instrument that is ‘technically perfect’ and consequently you might be missing out on the ‘sound’… afterall, as listeners to music and sound, the emotional response from listening comes from the sound and how it moves us not which button, slider or feature was used to make the sound. If S6 is not for you, it’s not for you… but you’ve written yourself that anything else is a sonic compromise…
That’s just pure negativity on your part. I have Super 6 for more than two years and loved every minute of it. No real problems at all even on earlier FW.
Super 6 can’t be replaced by VST unlike pretty much any other synth.
Anyone who followed Super6 from pre-launch would know it shadows Roland’s Juno synths. It has no screen, meaning no feedback. Everything is BOUND to be more difficult, though if you just tweek away, it always rewards you. So buyer beware, as they say. What you will get is probably the best bass you’ll ever hear and upper notes so brilliant and crystaline, they hurt your ears. (Of course you can also filter out, if you are a bit delicate!) You need computer to change patchbanks, single cycle waveforms and update the OS. It’s a pain. Yes, I realise. But it sounds brilliant and looks amazing. For me, that’s more than enough.
Cheers to that. I was one of the rants earlier and I got so in love with its sounds that i can live with the little minor quirks
Anybody heard any news on the update?
@MattMarantz - How’s your testing going?
@udo-audio - Can you please provide some kind of an update on when the update is to be expected? 0.53 came out over a year ago at this point.
@ciemnima Sorry, pretty sure I am not allowed to discuss anything related to the beta testing in this area. I don’t know anything about release dates or anything like that. Other than bugs I’ve found and posted about, which support has replied they have all of them logged, I don’t have any news.
I figured it’d be at the very end of this month. During Superbooth (in the sonicstate vid) George said they’re shooting for the Gemini to be out “Septemeber” and, in context, he seemed to also state that the S6 update would be comin out prior to/by then. End of Summer/Start of Fall, so literally any day now.
Super Gemini got pushed an additional 4-6 weeks so dates are shifting somewhat.
There is SYNTHFEST UK 2023 in Sheffield, october 7th. UDO is there.
Hopefully the new firmware will be presented at this event.
with any luck the new software update will be released before Superbooth but suspect that UDO are still working to ensure it is totally bug free and offers meaningful improvements to the S6, plus it will give some sense of on going customer support to both existing S6 owners and potential future Gemini and S6 purchasers. This last point is critical as at least two expensive new flagship synths are scheduled for release very soon (Korg Kronos / Yamaha Montage replacements) UDO will be competing for market share / sells in a very competitive environment with many potential customers holding back major expenditure due to the financial mess we all are in today.
Do not understand why UDO are not posting weekly updates to its customer base regarding the state of play of the much promised ‘software update’ for the S6 ,surely most users would like to know when its official release date is scheduled, likewise we need to know any issues UDO have which could cause the release date to slip . I am sure the majority of users on this forum want to see the Super6 reach some level of maturity and not as the title of this tread says ’ Permanent beta’ status.
A quick look through the forum strongly suggests that many questions / subjects raised by the users seem to go unanswered, begging the question ‘’ have UDO actually got anyone working in customer support ? maybe the user base is too small to warrant dedicated support ? Yes I know that UDO is a very small company but given its size it really must tighten up its customer support in order to build consumer confidence and additional sales - even more so at the premium end of the market.
Well George carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. Check the careers page of their website to see some very important job openings that should evolve things in future and spread the load.
There is an interview from Bristronica:

My understanding: there is a recursive process of taking improvements from Gemini back to Super 6. Maybe thats why the firmware update takes so long. Maybe its feedback from the Beta-testers.
