I am thinking about getting a Super 6 and have been reading a lot about it lately. Reading about fader issues where different faders have completely different resistance however makes me question if this really is the synth for me (spending this amount of money on a synth and not having the feeling of getting a high quality device is not what i am looking for).
Since most of the reports about the fader issues seem to be from some years ago, i am looking for some more recent experiences; are these issues still happening with newer boards (let’s say from '24 and '25)? If you can share your experiences it would be greatly appreciated
I’ve had a Super 6 desktop for getting on a year now since I bought new. Like yourself I was concerned about it and out the box I did a check and was super happy with the feel of all the faders. Cue 10 months of super fulfilling playing (some initial moments of doubt I must say) and the uneven fader issue never really crossed my mind for more than a second or two if I happened to notice it.
Funnily enough, before you’d posted, my S6 was sat unplugged in the living room whilst I evaluated some other gear and I thought I should give all the faders a wiggle to keep them from sticking. As I went through them I did notice they were all slightly different. The spread though was not particularly significant. All within reasonable bounds in my (admittedly particular if not OCD) opinion.
So, that is to say, in my opinion, unless you are prone to small differences holding you back, anecdotally, on my model, it is not an issue that should keep one from buying a Super 6 Desktop. Super 6 keyboard I can’t comment on.
Like I say, I think one would have to have a pronounced OCD problem (we can all be OCD I know) for it to get in the way of enjoying the thing - just get one I’d say! It’s my favourite polysynth ever already, I’d keep it over my Juno 6 and I don’t say that lightly (:
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences! I am looking at the keyboard version primarily but may go for the desktop after i have been able to test drive them
My 5 year old Super6 keyboard is the same. Only the LFO faders have equal resistance through their full travel range. All the other faders have higher resistance at the bottom and move freely at the top of travel. Personally, I would not worry about it, if I were you. My guess is the LFO faders are a different resistance value to the other faders, or even from another manufacturer. Having taken many faders apart on other equipment, for repair or servicing, it is just grease. Sometimes they put electrically conductive grease on the actual electrical track of the fader or e.g. rotary encoder. More likely Super6 faders have grease on the sliding mechanism, not the resistive track. My room is cold at the moment, as I am not using heating yet. In the very hot summer weather, the faders moved more freely, I do remember. I once replace grease on all 76 notes of a Yamaha piano, as the damping grease had gone more viscose and sticky! Just enjoy your Super6, they sound amazing.
