Moods

I find the fixed modulations is versatile enough in most cases. Its nice though to have the option setting up additional ones when you find a use for it. Listening to your music you’ve already begun to coax out those experimental sounds from the synth. And drones are a great way to let those sounds play out. I usually prefer to have a melodic structure ― usually with a sequencer to free up my hands for controls. After three years I still stumble upon unique sounds I havn’t heard before. As long as you’re enjoying the synth it will probably keep you interested quite a while longer.

Thanks @trond.olsen, I’m also noting what you did with the post on the Gemini above using the layers separately for drone and melodic elements. I’m actually considering adding another Super 6 to have more oscillators at hand for either sequencing or additional timbres for the drone. I think one of the issues with ‘sequencing’ a drone is that it would need to be very very slow (like I want this chord to change gradually over a period of minutes, hold for another few minutes and then slightly change). Almost easier to do it manually. But, as you say, there is a lot to explore here regardless.

Throwing a bunch of patterns at the Digitakt II and trying to stitch them together. Well, mostly trying to find a good workflow for sampling the Gemini. Alternating sample playback with two tracks, like 2-voice polyphony, works well so samples can play out — nice if this could be handled in firmware. I’m much more pleased this second round with Elektron’s device.

Sounds great trond! Nice little composition. So that’s kind of “multi-tracked” right? The Gemini playing with a sampled version of itself? Sounds like there’s more than two layers going on anyway…

Thanks, its several 20-40 second stereo samples of the Gemini including delay from the synth. The Digitakt II is merely doing simple sample playback with the exception of delay on one transition.

Dual layer on Gemini was the main reason it replaced my Super 6. With almost double the number of controls makes live performing a bit more challenging. More practice is needed but gave it a try nevertheless. This one uses two layers in non-binbaural mode. Top layer is bass with vcf resonance and delay feedback. Bottom layer is an arp being mashed up with mixer and vcf. Both layers uses delayed lfo1 in random mode to give sustain some variation.

My goodness this is awesome. Sublime sound design and quite the arc to it. Love your stuff, always! <3

That’s really lovely, @trond.olsen. I’ve got the opportunity to pick up a second Super 6; hoping to layer them together to come up with some similar compositions. Please keep up the practice and share more.

Trouble sleeping so why not try curing it with a midnight jam. Dual layer fumbling in the dark.

Hello @trond.olsen, I just wanted to say that I found your SoundCloud account several months ago, while searching for Super Gemini sound examples. I had previously fallen in love with the Super 6 sound from various artists I found online, but the pool of SG demos out there where small and somewhat underwhelming to me. Once I found your tracks, I listened to all of them (on repeat, many times) and I just wanted to say that you entirely sold me on the SG! Fantastic work (composition and sound design) on all of these! My SG should arrive in a few days — thanks for helping me decide!

Thanks! After spending three years with the Super 6 and one year with the Gemini I’m still surprised by the gamut of sounds it produces. When I stumble upon something interesting I usually do a recording and upload to soundcloud for my own reference.

I’ve not yet seen larger arrangements by other musicians on youtube etc. showing the full potential of the synth, but I guess there are professional musicians employing it now. It would be nice if they dropped some hints where

Hope the synth brings you much enjoyment! Cheers.
