New UDO Synth DMNO, 8-voice, 2-part multitimbral

Yeah, I’ve preordered a white one (it reminded me of the lighter-colored areas of the Nostromo), and am occupying my time waiting or shipment by endlessly wondering if I should switch to the black.

Also deeply flabbergasted (that’s right! I am deeply flabbergasted) that all of NAMM came and went and there is so far not one clip of George talking about when they’re expecting to ship.

I really want to know if the 3-way switches in the MOD section are modes (OR) or selectors (AND)… eg. if you set the WAVE/PWM switch to LFO1 and dial up some modulation, can you flip the switch to ENV1 -AND- add envelope modulation to the LFO1 modulation? - or does that switch only allow modulation from LFO1 -OR- ENV1? I am hoping that since they are encoders, that each of those knobs serves three functions, selected by the switches above.

This is how it works. Simultaneous settings are possible.

The retailer who I preordered from went and talked to George for me and confirmed they’re aiming for a March shipping date. Delays happen of course, but that seems reasonable.

March potential ship date…. Sounds good. I’m in. Just pre-ordered my white DMNO from Moog Audio.

One of us, one of us! March can’t come soon enough. I’m almost trying to go in blind…I trust George to give us something special that doesn’t just repackage the Super Series…I don’t know where it’ll take me, but I’m here for it. The Gemini is my GOAT.

I can’t wait to see the initial supported modulation matrix features, and what series “complex oscillator” concretely means. If the LFO and oscillators were to be thought of as FM operators, what’s the longest operator chain I can make? Key tracking audio rate LFOL → Osc 1L → Osc 2L → things on the right side?

I wonder if oscillators themselves can be used to modulate filter cutoff etc… which is a favorite in the modular world. Or to what extent oscillators can modulate amplitude of other things.

Thanks for adding me. I just ordered mine, lucky me got a 8% discount code from Musicstore, so ordered instantly. Now just waiting for it for 2 or 3 months. I only hope the manual will be released earlier…yep, I’m the guy who loves to read manuals.

hi! i’m wondering if someone could help me grasp the voice count on the dmno. i’ve seen three pieces of information on the website and it’s a little confusing for me :

  • ‘DMNO is an 8-voice, 2-part multitimbral powerhouse’
  • ‘It features two independent 4-voice analog-hybrid synthesizers’
  • ‘DMNO employs a 8 voices in standard mode, with the option of twinning them to create 4 voices in Binaural mode’

the second statement would lead me to believe that if playing just one domino, one could only play 4-note chords. but that would mean that in binaural mode, one could only play two notes at a time, right?

furthermore, am i understanding correctly that when not in binaural mode, and in dual mode (both dominos stacked), you’ll also only be able to play 4-note chords, with 8 voices total but stacked, is that right?

so lastly, does this mean that to play 8-notes chords, the only way would be to play in split mode (with both dominos set to the exact same sounds possibly)?

tysm!!

It’s two 4-voice synths. Binaural mode halves the voices. Layering/stacking effectively halves the voices. So:

  • unstacked and monaural, you could play eight notes (each key press uses one voice)
  • stacked and monaural, you could play four notes (each key press uses one voice per synth)
  • unstacked and binaural, you could play four notes (each key press uses two voices)
  • stacked and binaural, you could play two notes (each key press is using two of the four voices per synth)

I am just curious, has any mention been made by UDO of the MPE button on the DMNO? I assume it is something that is intended (but not promised) to be implemented in the future via firmware, but was wondering if there was any clarity on the matter.

Don’t hold your breath on the MPE, the Gemini still hasn’t got it AFAIK.

I wonder if the release is inminent… now that it’s March, I wakeup everyday wondering if my YouTube feed will be flooded by DMNO reviews!

Just received shipping notification in the UK, so should get it tomorrow!

Manual can be viewed now: UDO DMNO | Support & Downloads

Congratulations on the release!

Damn! No sign that they’re on their way to Canada yet, I’m dying over here.

Very excited to hopefully get my DMNO tomorrow!

A couple of thoughts + questions for the team:

  • LFO 1 alt waveforms  (all hail the return of the Battwave mod ha!)
  • LFO 2 Polyphonic - nice! I seem to recall it was only monophonic on the Super’s (at least on the Gemini), so thats a nice upgrade!
  • Selectable behaviour for Footswitches is ace :white_check_mark:. I only own a single sustain pedal so nice to be able to switch it to activate both holds / delay freezes without having to buy another pedal.
  • Curious as to what the filter tune setting does. Is this specifically for Keytracking the filter or something else?
  • Who has been involved with creating the patches + performances? Patch names look great
  • Can the mix outputs or headphone output be set to just one of the DMNO’s?
    • IE enabling setting the Aux outputs to DMNO 1 and the Mix outputs to DMNO 2 to enable us to multitrack record both?
      • Is this possible in launch firmware by turning down DMNO 1 in the main mix and then setting Aux outputs to DMNO 1? IE does the Aux Output ignore the main mix setting?
    • Also would love if the Headphones output could then be set to output the combined effects bus seperately
    • and then the aux + mix outputs have the option to be set to pre / post effects bus.
    • Appreciate this is a complexity probs beyond the launch firmware but interested to hear if this could be possible in a firmware update or if it is locked in from a hardware perspective?

My black DMNO is here. OMG this is one bad ass MF of a synth. It is angry! A very different palette to the Supers.

how’s the black? i’m still torn on whether i should last-minute change my white

I was torn on the colour too. I think it looks great either way. The reasons I chose black was

  1. the 2 different knob colours on the black version stand out more aiding hand position and reducing risk of turning the wrong one

  2. The sceeen blends more into the casework which I think looks a bit better

  3. My super.is white. I wanted something different
