Permanent beta?

With this new multi timbral synth getting released and talk of a big new update for the Super 6, I do wonder if this update will bring the previously discussed multitimbrality to the Super 6

There’s a bit of talk about it here from 2019 and I wonder if they’ve finally managed to figure it out.

On my side, Im waiting for:

  • being able to directly address the edit buffer (request from edit buffer / send to edit buffer) so it will be easier to use patches from the editor
  • have specific NRPN numbers for each single possible modulation (should thus be around 700 numbers)
  • multi-timbrality with possibility to define the number of voice pairs for each timbre, a specific midi channel by timbre and if possible the keyboard range of each timbre
  • Wave morphing / smooth wave table scanning (this seems to be on the new Gemini)

Curious to see what will be in the next update… but I’m also afraid that after that the Super 6 will be forgotten even if it is already a great instrument as-is
Due to the lack of screen for such complex instrument, I’m also not interested by the Gemini.
Maybe an MkII as they left an empty space on the upper left part of the synth? Would just be needed to adapt the case by making a hole in it

Hello,

When I send a Program Change to my Super 6 Desktop (0.53) to switch to another patch, the Super 6 always miss the next note.
Does “Secondary benefit faster loading.” will fix this issue ?

Thank you

In addition to my previous comment, it seems that it also miss some CC send by the external MIDI controller, after the patch being changed… but I need to perform more tests.

Couldnt agree more.
Thanks for highlighting what we’re all thinking.

Maybe we are.
We get caught up in youtube land and are dazzled by the creative content and content creators that push these products.

Not always the case obviously but its definitely apart of it.

It’s funny, my last two purchases have been the Squarp Hapax and the Super 6.

UDO announced the Gemini while the S6 hasn’t had an update in over a year.

Squarp just announced the Hermod+ while the Hapax hasn’t had an update in over half a year.

It seems to be a common approach these days. Nevertheless, I am happy with my purchases and am confident that we will get some more updates even though us consumers might wish that they did things a bit differently.

Today is a sad day ! :disappointed_relieved:

I decided to sell my Super 6 Deskop (ordered, new, in February). I love  the sound and all the sound design capabilities, the good knobs and faders feeling.

But it keeps crashing! :face_vomiting: Either the wheels and faders no longer respond, :grimacing: or MIDI CCs are ignored, :scream: or there is suddenly no sound, or it does not light up! :frowning: I’m fed up and since there is no date to release a firmware (if it fixes my bugs), I made this sad decision.

I tried: I set up workarounds (to reduce craches), contacted support (who was willing to help me ), but I gave in. I’m disgusted.

Thanks to all forum members for the help, they provided :+1:. I don’t think I’ll come back because I don’t think I’ll buy a UDO product again. :broken_heart:

Bye.

To be honest, I think the comparison between UDO and Squarp is a bit apples to oranges. Squarp has a killer track record on bug squashing and updates. IMHO no manufacturer owes customers ongoing feature additions (especially for free). Hapax has been six months, but it’s very usable and stable as it is (I have it and a Pyramid).

The Super 6 does not do what’s in the manual and it contains lots of functional slop. Mine no longer responds to program changes since the last update and, like Denony, has frequent unexpected stoppage of limited functions.

Sounds great, obnoxious to use, and still not a whiff of an ETA for a firmware update.

This is a great day. You bought a thing that doesn’t work how you wanted so you’re moving on. Good job! The goal in life is not to justify purchases you’ve made, but rather to be happy and drag as few people down with you as possible. This feels like a positive step in that direction.

Best of luck with what’s next.

Every couple of months I come back here to see when my VCA gain modulation destination request will be fulfilled.

Is there any update about a release date for the new firmware? Please, just even an ETA would keep me going for a while longer. I don’t want to become one of the ones who sold their Super 6….

@MattMarantz i believe you have started a discussion on this here VCA Gain not working 0.53 firmware?

He’s had no response from you there, either.

When can we expect the firmware to work as described in the manual?

This is honestly absurd. Myriad issues exist, and y’all are working on another synth, while this $3,000 partly-finished mess gets sold in stores.

Hi @udo-audio

OK sure I’m glad to post the same exact question in that other thread you linked me to, but I think it’s only fair to ask: Will I receive a different response? I guess it’s worth a shot. Here’s my reply, and I’ll be watching for yours: VCA Gain not working 0.53 firmware? - #16 by MattMarantz

UDO have ‘hinted’ that they are working on upgrades an bug fixes for the S6 and that it will be released Aug / Sept this year. Let’s hope this actually happens and that the synth becomes the ‘best it can be’ .

This is shared with permission from George: I would like to share that I am honored to be beta-testing the new Super 6 firmware which is being worked on hard by the UDO team and I am happy to report that everything I was personally hoping would be added is currently working on the desktop unit. I’m not totally sure what details I can share so this is just a general post to hopefully encourage other Super 6 owners like myself to hang in there and be patient because they are working on it and making good progress. I am excited that I will finally be able to make fully-realized patches for my wind synth (I play the EWI) and this is a big joy for me personally because I have been waiting a year to be able to really dial it in for wind patches. Anyway, when I know what else I can share, and maybe video/audio demos, I will! But for now, I just wanted to post something positive and give anyone waiting for the new firmware something to look forward to! It’s not done yet and they are still working out some issues but I think we can expect something pretty soon is the feeling I get, again total speculation, I’m not privy to any release details or anything like that. Much respect to the UDO team. This is one of the best sounding instruments to come out in the last 10 years in my humble opinion, and for me it’s been one of the most exciting platforms personally. The tone of the oscillators alone is worth the ticket price.

I’m excited!

Great news. Would love to do some beta testing myself too

Thanks for that, I was just about to list mine. Now I will wait again…

It is too late for me. I sold my Super 6 Desktop (because of the firmware issues)
This new firmware should have been out for a very long time. :unamused:

Any idea if/when this will be shared with other beta testers? Given your ‘pretty soon’ expectation of release, I’d hope so… And, if you don’t mind, can you tell me if I’ll finally be able to do subtle detunes between the oscillators? Been sorta gagging for that since I got my Soup.
