That makes total sense. The same applies to the rest of the delay parameters (level & feedback). It would be amazing if we could have the AT react as mono when it comes to the delay.
Happy to do some testing if needed on this!
Just installed mine this evening. Everything was very smooth and easy to install. The new screws can be a bit tough but nothing too taxing. It’s a very nicely made instrument on the inside!
I feel this upgrade really completes the instrument and makes a huge difference in how expressive it is. Haven’t had time to program a lot of new sounds but I can see all the possibilities.
Please, please could we have the option of MPE output, at least from the USB midi port as would be great to have this as the master MPE controller of the studio.
@udo-audio will these retrofit kits be an ongoing product to purchase in the future? I can’t afford one at the moment but will definitely be picking one up when the funds are there but am worried that this is an exclusive release!
Not sure how everyone else feels but I quite like routing the AT to LFO1 speed to get lots of variety in the stereo field and feel it would be more intuitive to see the LED react to the last note pressed, particularly for lead lines. It seems to react every 6th note. Anyway for subtle sounds it’s quite nice to see the feedback.
Received mine now!
Q: Do you have to install the supporting firmware first before installing the new keys?
I did to be safe. The cable plugs into a different part of the circuit board so don’t know if the new keyboard will work without the update
Would be great if there are infos when we get our new keys. I’m in Germany . Any how great and can’t await to get mine.
I ordered it on May 21 and received it today in Germany
Great, thanks for the info because it was strange because I payed and heard nothing anymore, just got the info that my money was accepted
installed mine now, was a bit tricky to align the keyboard, maybe because I have an earlier S6 build.
most of the keys have a great weighted and muted action, but a few feel very clanky, making a much louder key action noise than the rest when played.
is this normal and something you experience? i don’t recall having this issue on my og keys
I got my keyboard upgrade in the mail yesterday! It was a surprise because I never got a shipping notification. Not complaining though.
Installation: pretty easy overall. Does the OG keybed have 10 screws, and the AT version only have 8? There are two holes left over that don’t have visible screw mounts, so I left them open. Also I really struggled with the new keyboard ribbon. Having an extra set of hands would’ve made that a lot easier.
The new keys themselves: really cool! With the OG keybed I used aftertouch pretty sparingly; with the new keybed, I think I’ll use it on a lot more patches. It is much easier to activate than it previously was, and sometimes activates unintentionally. It seems much more sensitive than the OG keybed, mainly because there is no resistance between the end of the velocity point and the start of the aftertouch. The keys have a nice weight to them without being hard to play.
I also want to give UDO a shout out for even making this possible. I don’t know of any other synth company that has offered something like this!
This is covered in an earlier post on this thread:
Bro , you bought a poly after touch keybed …
there is no MPE keybed for the super 6 … there two totally different things MPE uses all 16 midi channels to send so much more info … the super 6 is capable of receiving MPE info .
but it has no way of generating those messages it’s self …
if you wanna tap into the super 6’s MPE capabilities ,you’ll need an MPE keyboard controller like the osmose , roli gear , etc.
I think George has put MPE out on the wish list for compatibility with instruments that support it but yeah it’d only have a single axis
The combo of shallow travel depth with easy aftertouch sounds like it mirrors the vintage aftertouch synths like ARP ProSoloist. IMO its the best option to take, standard synth action travel but adding poly AT to it would honestly be a pain.
If you want a synth to feel like an instrument, it needs to be a bit idiosyncratic. I’m glad UDO did what they did.
Now if only I could get my tracking sent to me. I purchased in early August so I’m guessing I’m low on the list for orders
I think you’ll change your mind after you’ve had a chance to try it. It’s way to easy to trigger AT. It gets in the way of triggering high velocity.
No its not normal - best to recheck the fitting of the key-bed , there is a little up / down movement , maybe its not lined up properly .
Thanks for input, and yes I definitely double and triple checked the alignment, that all outer screws were dead center, and tried to do micro adjustments with and without lid on, but whatever I do the first C and D keys make a clanky noise, and feel different from the rest of they keyboard that’s otherwise rather damped and has imo a great feel.
Then I also discovered the middle F key made a loud springy clanky sound, with all keys around being dead quiet.
Anyhow, created a support ticket, let’s see.
My lowest C was clacky. I found the towards and away from me axis solved it. But sure, it may also be a defect.
My lowest C & D are slightly clanky as well. There is also no aftertouch on my lowest C. Emailed support. Hopefully something can be done about it.
