Nothing about the build quality or the thoughtfulness of design in the Super 6 makes me think you all are lazy. I’ve been nothing but impressed with the versatility and musicality of the instrument - these updates only make things better. Thanks for working so hard to make this as good as possible.
I think that now is a good time to be kind to each other. Feel free to take a nap every once in awhile, and I hope to buy you a beer should we ever run into each other. Thanks again!
Hey George, thanks for the update and sorry to hear that things have not been going smoothly, but happy to hear things are still going!
To echo others’, my only suggestion (based on personal experience of being a constantly overwhelmed developer but also of being a buyer of expensive toys) would be to make more granular and more frequent updates if poss.
This will help reduce the mental load and provide reassurance to customers and potential customers. The mention of “regular firmware updates” on forums always sounds better than “still waiting for bug fixes”, even if the eventual net result is somewhat similar! It would also provide for a more granular rollback path should a particular new firmware release cause problems for specific users, plus help you offset some of your testing load onto us eager users.
Nothing but love for you and the UDO team! This pandemic is beyond uninspiring and insanely taxing on mental health. This synth has instantly become my favourite instrument in my arsenal and my go to for every project I embark on! Can’t wait for the new features but even as it is now it’s an endlessly beautiful weapon of a synth!
Hang in there man, we all know the wait will be worth it
Somehow missed this amazing post when it came out, but I want to say that many of these new features will really help propel the synth forward massively in every day usability. In particular the pan stuff has been sorely missing, and the variable HPF had me CLAPPING my little hands in real life. And USB midi? Loves it.
I look forward to the new precision in knobs. I’m guessing this means higher resolution? Maybe those beautiful FM tones in perfect tune (in more than one or two positions) will finally be possible. Will we see keyboard tracking as a mod source or oscillator mix as a destination?
I sympathize a lot with what you’re saying about this pandemic and being worn down from it. With that said these kinds of updates are just so reassuring, especially when you’ve been waiting on that usb midi update for what, 9 months? I can really only encourage you to do that more in the future.
In the superbooth vidéo George says the new firmware s6 (keyboard) is available at the same time s6 desktop in autumn (desktop will already have the new firmware inside when it is sold) but on the thomann website the s6 desktop is available in 14 - 18 weeks (4 months)) i hope the new firmware for keyboard is available before.
Yeah dealers in the UK saying mid November for desktop stock now. Just remember what happened with the keyboard S6, on places like Thomann etc. The stock arrival date kept being pushed back months and months. I also just want the firmware, and ASAP.
Damn. I was really looking forward to getting that firmware this month.
Since it’s pushed back, I hope they added in the MIX KNOB as a mod destination and can give us full modulation range of parameters from the mod matrix.
For reference, Thomann told me it would be 8-10 weeks when I ordered my S6 last year, and it came in 5 days. I think Thomann undersells and overdelivers if you’re looking at their dates.
The new manual V3 is available at UDO for download. It is for both versions (desktop and keyboard).
The new features are described there:
pan spread
adjustable high pass filter
enhanced EGs
modulation destination oscillator mix!!!
The last one may give a lot of benefit to sound design. Lets see how the flexible HPF sounds. It seems, pan spread amount can not be modulated. Hopefully new HPF can be modulated.
