When is the new Firmware going to be released?

@Vanlesson with the next Super 6 update I plan to unify the oscillator FPGA hardware design a little between Super 6 and Gemini/8 if possible given the hardware constraints. The instruments have a slightly different character, I’m interested in feedback as to whether any changes to the super 6 sonic signature are sensible. I would only do it if it results in subtle improvement (although improvement is subjective!)

@udo-audio for my part, I welcome any improvements to sonic character. I think that having the ability to make those changes is part of what makes this instrument so special and valuable!

I have both S6 module and SG and can say that those differences are quite minimal, def not something to chase George for.

I prefer the SG/8 high frequency behaviour over S6 from what I heard so far, but I currently do not own SG/8 for a perfect comparison. For me, SG/8 sounds more linear with less distortion in the high frequency range. Yes, some people might have a different opinion. I would love to have the SG/8 high frequency sonic behaviour in the S6.
Thus, it would be necessary to distribute Beta-software to selected “sensitive” users in advance or to make a video or sound file to show us the difference. I fear the shitstorm if an existing user is dissappointed with the different character.

I have the SG and S6 Desktop, and totally agree, though it’s subtle, the SG sounds better. I’d personally be all fro bringing the show family in line.

Also being a Groove Synthesis supporter, I see a lot of parallels in strategy, and the whole 3rd Wave family basically sounds the same, just pick your form factor and price point.

Please, please give us options for some settings. I can’t understand why some things are “hard-wired” and not changeable.
For example portamento, it’s a hard-wired “fixed rate” setting. Please give us the option to at least change it to “fixed time”. In other synths it’s standard to have several settings for portamento, such as fixed rate, fixed time, the option that it only applies to legato etc. Maybe shift + portamento fader to a specific position (upper half = fixed rate, lower half = fixed time).

Another annoying “hard-wired” setting is legato in unison mode. It would be nice to use it for basses but with legato it doesn’t make any sense.

Fader change behaviour is “jump” only which is nice for sound building but not live.

There are massive sync issues.

Some modulations don’t work as expected.

Having the ability that DDS2 with noise shape in LFO becomes “sample and hold” would be a nice way to introduce free assignable random modulation since LFO1 is only available for some destinations.

These are just off the top of my head…

Any updates on this topic (unify the oscillator FPGA hardware design a little between Super 6 and Gemini/8)?

May I ask as well if there are any updates on this topic?
The first-born needs some love again

It’s a real shame. These issues are still unresolved, especially the sync issue is absolutely embarrasing for a synth in this price range. I’m really frustrated I must say and I’m considering selling my Super 6.

Greetings @udo-audio

I know it must be tiring to keep hearing our repeated questions about firmware releases. We really do appreciate the scale of the task and everything that’s been done to complete the S6 feature set.

That said, is there any chance we might see another firmware release this year that addresses the sync issue along with some of the other items mentioned in this thread?

I didn’t make it to Machina Bristronica to ask U.D.O. about the S6 firmware. Did anybody?

Wasted ticket :frowning:

Now, with the release of the DMNO and the estimated shipping date of the beginning of 2026, I assume all resources will be dedicated to fine-tuning and finishing the firmware for the DMNO.

Think that waxdoctor is correct, UDO being a small outfit probably do not have the resources to track down ‘bugs’ and add new features to legacy synths (S6, S8 and SG ) unless an absolute miracle happens and the DMNO is released as a fully working mature synth, suspect it will be all hands to the pumps sorting out issues with the new DMNO. That said, maybe George and co will suprise us and have a range of software and hardware ( screen, more voices etc ) updates already in beta waiting for final checks before release.

If that’s true, and the Super 6 is simply left in that state, it’s an absolute disgrace. I can live with a few things, but the ability to stay in sync with MIDI clock is non-negotiable for me. UDO is really not doing itself any favors with this. I’ve already had 3 or 4 people ask me about it and consider buying a Super 6, and every time I’ve said: if you can do without integrating it into a setup with MIDI clock, go ahead, otherwise I can only advise against it. Every time, this has led to incredulous amazement and then to them deciding on something else.

i dont feel the synth is in a bad place. Do you have some examples of the clock drifting out? Is the arpeggiator or the sequencer letting you down?

I haven’t tried the sequencer but with the arp, changing the quantization (8th notes, 16th notes etc) via the tempo knob while it’s synchronized to an incoming tempo messes up the timing. See https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X17dv61og5M

…and if I am allowed to say, this is really ‘overdue’… please make it true.

Ah, that’s a sad name for UDO’s former flagship synth, the one that helped get everything off the ground in the first place!

And yeah, the current state of the firmware is a bit undercooked, so it would be a shame if they left it as-is.

There’s also a lack of things like knob value pickup, bugs like mod matrix getting reset on patch preview, etc. We were told the S6 would be getting some love in May or June, but alas, I guess all the attention is on the new child…

Didn’t want to create a new thread for this - I think I’m getting a bug where the oscillators are swapped in the Mix section, e.g. DDS1 is on the CC end of the knob (fully to the right), and DDS2 is on the CCW side (left). Anyone experience this?

Yes I too experienced this early on but I think one of the firmware updates resolved?
